The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 26-23 on January 8th

Tua Tagovailoa, a true freshman quarterback out of Honolulu, Hawaii, took over at quarterback for Alabama at halftime. Previous starter Jalen Hurts was disappointing in the first half. He went 3/8 for a dismal 21 yards passing. Tagovailoa finished the game with a 58.3% completion percentage for 166 yards in the air, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Running back Najee Harris led the team in rushing yards with 64. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith led the Crimson Tide in receiving yards with 41 and had the biggest touchdown in the game. Smith’s only catch was a 41-yard streak in overtime to win the national championship for Alabama. On defense, linebacker Mack Wilson had 12 tackles in the game. Alabama has a history of great linebackers such as Reuben Foster.

Alabama has won their 5th national championship in 9 years. Nick Saban is now equal to legendary coach Bear Bryant in national championship wins with 5.

Georgia held a 20-7 lead in the third quarter but were unable to hold onto the lead. Georgia Bulldogs legend Herschel Walker was a representative for the coin toss and fellow Georgia alum Hines Ward also attended the game. True freshman Jake Fromm went 16/32 passing and had 232 yards passing for 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. The two-headed monster of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb combined for 32 carries for 123 yards rushing. Riley Ridley was the Bulldogs’ leading receiver with 6 catches for 82 yards. Roquan Smith led Georgia in tackles with 13 and also had 1 sack.

Georgia will look to improve on their 13-2 record for the season and get even better next season.They currently have the #1 recruiting class for 2018.

The game was held at Nissan Arena and G-Eazy with Migos performed at halftime.
